Never touch or go near a fallen power line. There is just one rule about power lines and other electrical equipment — stay away. Always assume all lines are live and dangerous.
If you have questions about the wires outside your home, call SHELD at 413-536-1050 for advice before you begin working around them. We’ll be happy to take a look and give you advice on how to stay safe.
Call 811 before you dig. Before you begin any project that includes digging, call Dig Safe at 811 to find out what you need to avoid underground. Dig Safe will notify participating utilities to mark the locations of underground lines. Visit digsafe.com for more information.
Planning home improvements?
Please call SHELD before you make home improvements that will increase your electricity use such as new large appliances, central air conditioning, a swimming pool or a home addition. We may need to upgrade the electrical equipment serving your home to meet your new power needs.
Also, remember to keep structures, landscaping, or any objects at least 10 feet away from electrical equipment such as transformers. If you’re unsure, call us for advice.
